Raise the River

The Delta was once a lush region covering over 3,000 square miles teeming with plant, bird, and marine life. However, a century of dams and diversions to supply water to farms, cities and industries in both the U.S. and Mexico have reduced the Delta to a remnant of its former self, with isolated small stands of native trees, marshes and riverside habitat. The Colorado River no longer even regularly reaches the Gulf of California.

But over the last decade, periodic floods and innovative on-the-ground restoration efforts involving local communities have shown that a little bit of water can go a long way toward bringing the Delta ecosystem back to life. Raise the River will accelerate these restoration efforts over the next five years, demonstrate success under the new binational agreement, and build momentum to eventually reconnect the river to the Gulf of California. Our goal is to raise $10 million by 2017 to enhance 2,300 acres of habitat and restore a base flow to the Colorado River in Mexico. Your donation will support our on-the-ground restoration projects in the Delta and water rights acquisitions through the Colorado River Delta Water Trust.
